Construction / DIY Training
NSA STRIDES ALLIANCE
OUR SERVICES
The construction workshop within strides delivers a wide range of training ranging from basic DIY to heritage stonework restoration. The more commonly instructed topics are brickwork, block work, paving, rendering and stonemasonry. However most requests can be catered for, subject to demand.
The purpose of the workshop is to give basic tasters within construction that can allow participants to decide weather they are suited to the industry or as a good refresher. Confidence building and teamwork are also widely promoted.
Another critical topic that is incorporated is the building of basic numeracy and literacy skills with regards to building calculations, the use of tape measures and the reading of technical drawings. There is a proven track with regards to a vast improvement in both areas of a relatively short period of time.
The works can be carried out within the construction workshop or on a live building site within an NSA project.
The mentors and volunteers within the construction department have a vast knowledge of the building industry and strive to ensure that willing participants gain employment or enter into further training within their chosen field.
A CSCS card training course is available and has already proved essential in order for people to gain employment. This however is a chargeable course.
The atmosphere within the training programme is a relaxed, friendly but professional environment where all staff are enthusiastic in the passing on of skills through training or advice.
